October is prime time for Winter Squash at Branstool Orchards!
Winter squash contains vitamin A, B, C, beta- carotenes and minerals. The name “winter squash” comes from the skin that hardens into a tough rind, which helps withstand the winter months. Squash are in the same gourd family as melons and cucumbers. The tough rind and the seeds are generally not eaten. As far as we know, Delicata is the only winter squash with edible skin and therefore one of our favorites since it requires less work and reminds us of a sweet potato.
